Indian Navy Sixth Barge Launch

The Indian Navy recently bolstered its capabilities with the launch of the LSAM 20, which is the sixth barge in its 11 x ACTCM Barge Project. The launch ceremony took place at the M/s Suryadipta Project Pvt. Ltd. shipyard in Thane, Maharashtra1. Let’s delve into the details:


Barge Name: The newly launched barge is named "Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile Barge, LSAM 20 (Yard 130)".

Purpose: This barge will play a crucial role in facilitating the transportation of articles and ammunition to Indian Navy ships. It will assist in both embarkation and disembarkation of supplies, both alongside jetties and at outer harbors.

Design and Construction: The LSAM 20 is indigenously designed and built under the relevant Naval Rules and Regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping. During the design stage, model testing of the barge was conducted at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam.

Make in India Initiative: These barges are proud flag bearers of the “Make in India” initiative by the Government of India (GoI), showcasing the country’s commitment to self-reliance and indigenous manufacturing.
